Emergency or not?
Which plumbing problems count as an emergency
Standard operating hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm. Emergency callouts are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and after-hours rates apply outside standard operating hours.
Burst pipes and uncontrolled leaks
Water that will not stop, or a leak flooding a room, is an emergency. Turn off the water at the meter or main tap if you can and call.
Leaking hot water systems
A hot water system leaking heavily, or water running continuously from the relief valve pipe, should be reported straight away. An occasional drip from the relief valve pipe can be normal operation, so if you are unsure, call and describe what you see.
Overflowing toilets and sewage backups
When a toilet or drain overflows and nothing else can be used, call. Stop using water in the house.
Gas smell
If you smell gas, follow the gas smell steps: put out flames, do not use electrical switches or devices, open doors and windows, keep people away, turn off the gas only if it is safe to do so, and call your gas distributor (natural gas) or gas supplier (LPG) from a safe place, or 000 if there is fire or immediate danger. Call us to arrange the investigation and repair once the area is safe.
No water or no hot water
A sudden loss of water or hot water can have many causes. Tell us what happened and we will advise.
When you call. Tell us your address, what has happened and whether you have been able to turn off the water or gas. A dripping tap or a slow drain can usually wait for a standard booking.

Is a leaking tap an emergency?
Usually not, unless it cannot be controlled. A dripping tap can be booked in standard hours. A burst pipe, flooding or gas smell is an emergency.
What should I have ready when I call for an emergency plumber?
Your address, what has happened, whether you have turned off the water or gas, and whether anyone is at risk. That helps us advise you straight away.

What should I do first in a burst pipe emergency?
Shut off the water at the main stopcock (usually near the water meter or where the mains line enters the property), then call us. Cutting power to any affected electrical areas is also worth doing if it's safe to reach.
Do you charge extra for after-hours callouts?
After-hours callout rates apply outside our standard scheduled service hours. Any applicable charges will be explained when the emergency booking is arranged.
