Smell gas? Don't call a plumber first.
Put out all flames and do not smoke or strike matches. Do not operate electrical switches or devices. If you are inside, open doors and windows and keep people away from the area. If it is safe to do so, turn off the gas at the meter (natural gas) or at the tank or cylinder (LPG). From a safe place, call your gas distributor if you have natural gas, or your gas supplier if you have LPG. Your distributor is shown on your gas bill. Natural gas emergency numbers listed by Energy Safe Victoria: AusNet Services 136 707, Australian Gas Networks 1800 427 532, Multinet Gas 132 691. For LPG, use the emergency number on your cylinder, tank or supplier’s documents. If there is a fire or immediate danger, call 000.
